PGA Tour confirms shutdown of two long-running Hawaii tournaments
Golf.com reported that the PGA Tour has confirmed it’s shutting down two long-running Hawaii tournaments as part of its continuing schedule shuffle. The move fits a broader effort to tighten the calendar, make weeks “mean more,” keep sponsors satisfied, and deliver a more consistent TV product.
These aren’t new events that never found traction. They’ve been established Hawaii stops for years—sunshine golf that helped kick off the season, offered players a soft landing after the holidays, and gave fans a winter escape. The Tour’s confirmation makes it official: two of those dates are going dark as official Tour events.
The larger context is the post-split reality in pro golf: more streamlining, more emphasis on signature events, and more scrutiny on tournaments that don’t deliver top fields, strong ratings, sponsorship value, or reliable player participation. Hawaii also brings long travel and logistical challenges, and the calendar slot competes with players who’d rather stay home another week.
